Wife's input - Do you guys get yours?
So I just got back from a business trip. I was caught in Alabama in the awful F5 Tornado. It just clipped the end of the airport in Birmingham, never had to evacuate an airport and go to the tornado shelters before....pretty scary.
I'm showing my wife the Hamilton Khaki that I liked, and she did not care for it at all. So I show her a couple other watches and she says she'd rather me buy the Oris TT1 Small Seconds.
What's your thoughts?

I might discuss many a thing with my wife but watches would not be one of them.

Sounds like your wife has good tastes in watches. Mine does not so I don't ask anymore.

First, glad you are safe!
I never ask her opinion on something I really want because she has 3 basic inputs: looks nice, looks kinda plain, and don't you already have something like that?

Thanks guys, I'm not sure where my wife's taste is at. She says the Hamilton looks to fragile, aka "girl-like" because it doesn't have a larger bezel on it. She also does not like nor understands the dial. I tried explaining it to her but she just looked more confused. Oh well, go figure.
Other input appreciated.

Always trust my wife's fashion judgement, and always ask. I've sent many a watch back on her recommendation. On a recent Android test she said "You're going backwards babe". On the other hand we may have to fight over who gets to wear my new Hamilton Jazzmaster Traveler GMT 2. Our tastes/habits are very different in watches, her being way more conservative, owning only 5, and wearing the same watch for months at a time.

Re: Wife's input - Do you guys get yours?
Boy, do I have a difference of opinion on this one!
How both my wife and women in general feel about what I'm wearing have a HUGE impact on my choices, and not just in watches. I think that's a cardinal mistake many men make; they tend to wear things for their own edification, but...as for me, I've always wanted to be attractive to the opposite sex. When I'm complimented on a watch or anything else, my head just zings.
My sheer hatred for oversized watches stems from that model I am friendly with saying "Ewwww!" when she saw that watch in a nightclub in that unforgettable moment that I always talk about. Maybe it's because I'm a city boy, I dunno. So, to answer your question, hell yeah, I listen to my wife! Sure, my own tastes pretty much rule, but if there's something he considers fugly, I simply don't wear it. It doesn't hurt that my wife is a watch fan as well, and has nice pieces by Accutron, Hamilton, and Moubisson.
Okay, guys, start throwin' yer rocks at me now, the shield is up (I'm using a SAN IV).

I listen to my wife. She has good taste (though perhaps not in husbands). After 21 years I've learned to trust her judgement in certain things.

Glad you're safe, Noob.
As to the question, well, Jesus Christ, if she's paying for it, then go for the Oris. What, do I have to come over there and slap you?
I have to admit, Mrs. Conjurer is the perfect WIS-wife. When I tell her I've ordered something, she says it's great. If I ask her before I order something, I get the straight dope.

Mrs. Boscoe has become a serious watch nut, though her taste runs to Rolex. (She got two new watches this week, a Yachtmaster and a Chanel J-12 Marine with a rubber strap and blue ceramic bezel with audemars-piguet auto).
So we discuss watches frequently. We influence each other's choices, but there's no veto power.

Don't have one, wife that is, so any watch decisions that I make are mine alone. My late wife used to like to by me watches every now and then, she got me my first, and so far only Rolex, a Submariner Date back in 2001 or so.

Oranges and Apples comparo, if you need another diver? get the Oris, if not then the Hammie will do fine, basically same quality... if someone else is paying for it, get the Oris (BTW someone else is not the wife).
I never ask anyone (including my wife) for advice on watches, she have got me a couple over the years and always asked me what I want within her budget.

Re: Wife's input - Do you guys get yours?
My wife doesn't like many of my watches. But she doesn't complain about them, so I'm okay.
Occasionally she finds something she wants me to buy and wear. She was the one who picked out the B&M below. Often she picks out stylish fashion watches. I've bought a few of those that I wear when I go out with her; I've got a DKNY and Diesel she picked.

my wife wouldn't notice any of my watches, unless it they jumped off my wrist and slapped her across the face. She could care less. She still wears an old scratched up Fossil piece of junk, she bought 10 years ago. I hate it.

My wife and I have the same taste. I used to subject her to Skelton and Davis because she hated both of them. I'm not big on the TV Brands, and I'd always get her to look at whatever were showing. 95% if the time she'd say "that looks cheap". She especially hates Crotons and Invicta for that reason

10 year old, scratched up,working watches are not pieces of junk IMO.
1 year old with falling off hands ARE.
Fossil makes a decent watch for the money.
You sound a bit snobbish tonite.

Guys, I really appreciate all your input on this subject. I think we can pretty much all relate to this subject.
Eddie nailed what I was going to say to those of you that said in so many words "Buy the Oris since she's paying". Ummm, I'm paying, not to take anything away from my wonderful wife. She keeps me having a level head though. I have mixed feelings right now so I'm sitting back. I'm never really in a hurry to buy and have time to investigate matters further.

I ask my wife when I'm on the fence. She can push me one way or the other. There are watches I have gotten rid of, because every time she sees them she makes comments like "that looks cheap"

I wouldn't buy a watch my wife didn't like, especially if I asked for her opinion. There are lots of watches out there, but you only have one wife.

I do, but we have different taste in watches, so I take it sometimes and leave it sometimes.

Re: Wife's input - Do you guys get yours?
Hey Noob, that sounds scary. Glad you're okay.
I know little about watches but tons more than my guy. He's finally decided he can have more than 2 watches at a time and is going for looks - bling, to be precise; I'm going for looks and quality of innards. He's got an artist's eye and knows what looks good on me, but then, I know too. Neither of us would buy the other a watch without asking.
Kind of a wash. The fun part is looking at watches with him.
