eBay "deals" that I stumble across...

Post by WatchDorks.Net on Thu Feb 16, 2012 4:18 pm

I'm going to try something new and see if it goes over. If not, oh well.

I've received PMs from several people over time, asking if I have leads on certain watch brands or models, since I tend to find some decent pieces at cheap prices.

Bottom line: I spend a lot of time perusing eBay for any number of reasons... probably more than anyone should. I can't afford to buy every "good deal" that comes along, but that doesn't mean that someone else here might not want it.

So as I come across what I believe to be a decent deal, and if I'm not planning to purchase it for myself, I'll post a link here in this thread, along with WHY I think it's a good deal. I plan to ONLY list them here at WL... fuck everyone else.

I don't generally search auction listings, as you never know where they will end up, so they might not end up being a good deal after all... Buy-It-Now listings only.

As many here know, I'm pretty much a bottom-feeder: strictly $500 or less, and the lower the better, so I won't be posting high-end (or even medium-range) stuff. I don't usually do vintage, so what I post will likely be current (2001+) era.

The brands I tend to be looking for (and are thus most likely to wind up here):

Philip
Bulova/Accutron
Hamilton
Seiko

So we'll see if it's useful to anyone... *

First up, a Bulova 21-jewel auto 96A120 (brown dial with open heart) for $119 shipped.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280827794199

Cheapest price I've found online is $295. The description says there are some scuffs on the side, but the condition in the pics look good overall.

If I hadn't just bought the Precisionist with brown dial, I'd probably snag this one.

* I make no guarantees or recommendations as to the sellers or the condition of the actual watches in question; I'm just pointing out what *I* believe to be good economical deals. YMMV, and people are free to disagree with my assessment.

Here's one that appears to be similar to the one above, but black dial and a very nice two-tone bracelet, looks to possibly be the 98A101:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BULOVA-AUTOMATIC-21-JEWELS-FULLSIZE-LARGE-43MM-CASE-BLACK-DIAL-S-S-GOLD-PL-/150762305587?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item231a223833

Listed at $179 Buy-It-Now, but I'd try offers; you might get it for quite a bit less.

Thanks WD, I will be watching this closely.
I don't have the patience to scan through the bay to look for deals like this.

Appreciate the thread WDN.

On the first watch, seller listed the model # incorrectly , it is a #96A120.

Here is same watch new for $90 more:

Tempting

Thanks for pointing out the error. Even with the lower comparative real-world price, the one on eBay that I originally linked is still a good deal, in my opinion.

An $80 difference between new and used doesn't immediately sound like much... but when you figure that one is 43% more expensive than the other, that puts it in a different perspective.

$119 versus $209 is a very different scale than say $719 versus $809, in my opinion.

(Remember, we're talking about dumpster-diving territory here, not them high-falutin' "timepieces" that them there wartch snobs be lookin' fer.)

Nice watches. I owned one a long time ago. 46mm case so not too huge. These were clearanced at the shop for $400 and long gone...

Just purchased a Bulova 96A111 that was on my Amazon wishlist for a long time....it is a vasectomy recovery gift from my wife...and though I paid more than the eBay price I still feel like I got a good deal.
Oddly enough, the eBay watch is listed has having a Japanese quartz movement despite clearly being an 'open heart' mechanical.

Not so much a deal in price as to simply being to find one:

Several people expressed interest/curiosity about the Seiko SNAA03 asymmetrical I reviewed here:

http://watchlords.forumotion.net/t14715-fresh-off-the-boat-err-truck-seiko-snaa03-ventura-asymmetrical

One has shown up on eBay for $248 shipped:

No idea if this watch is worth the asking price, nor could I find any specifics about it since I cannot read the back of the case, but this is a very attractive vintage design, in my opinion:

For anyone who liked the Bulova Accutron Lucerne I posted about here:

http://watchlords.forumotion.net/t15155-revisiting-the-bulova-accutron-26b54-lucerne?highlight=accutron

There's one at a Buy-It-Now of $150 on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Accutron-by-Bulova-chronograph-watch-/180840982225?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item2a1af666d1

It looks like it has some desk diving marks, but the listing has Best Offer, so you might be able to get it for a C note or so...
