I still like BIG watches

Post by jason_recliner on Wed Feb 22, 2012 10:23 pm

Recently I have been leaning towards 40-42 mm watches. I thought maybe my big watch phase was over, and sort of considered selling the O300. Having worn it all week, however, I can confirm that I am still very much enamoured with BIG watches!

I went to an AD the other day and saw some solid gold Zenith dress watches that were absolutely MASSIVE (perhaps 45mm and since they had thin bezels, looked rather ridiculous).

I guess I DON'T like big watches anymore.

It's all a matter of taste.
Nothing wrong with giant watches. They match the white socks you wear with your best suit.

Although I prefer the 38-42 mm range there are some "big" watches that I own and like. Most notably these.

45.5 (but it doesn't seem like it's that big)

46 but this style was originally 55 mm way back when!

50mm-my shits and giggles watch

It also doubles as a coaster

My take is...wear whatever floats your boat, who the fuck cares about everything else or others perception of right or wrong?

I'm kind of over the tool diver thing and have settled on 39-43mm as my ideal size. That said, wear what you like and I will try to keep an open mind. It seems the only watches I truly notice in public are either ones I admire or the occasional hideously oversized piece.

I can't imagine ever wearing a watch under 40mm and tend to be happiest around 44-46. The thing I have less patience with these days is cases being too tall. I doubt I will ever pick up a watch that's over 15mm again.
