Afternoon,
The strap on the Connie was too long so I decided to swap it out. I had a brilliant thought and decided to drive down to Tourneau as it was time for the complimentary check up on the Longines. The strap for it had not faired so well so they put a new one on. This was going to be an order item but it turns out they had a new one in the back and spared me a trip. I took the time to peruse their offerings as well as the brand boutiques in the Galleria.
Anywho. Since the watch looks much better with the new strap I decided I'd take another shot at reviewing. This may also be a pre-intro to a future sale.
Make: Longines
Model: Presence - discontinued model of the Classiques line
Dimensions: 38mm not including the crown. I think it's just under 8mm thick
Movement: ETA 2892/A2 - date at 3 o'clock
Water Resistance: 30m - never been tested beyond raindrops
Dial: silver guilloche - a nice pattern that rarely shows well in most stock pictures
Strap: black leather with Longines signed tang buckle
Crystal: sapphire
Caseback: plain stainless.

I picked this one up a little over a year ago when I wanted something slimmer and smaller than my Citizen to wear with my white gold and sterling ring set I like. As usual I spent a month or more researching, browsing etailers and brick and mortar stores, boring my wife with my search details, etc. Then I walked into Tourneau one night to see some of the watches I'd been looking at and found this one. The rest, as they say, is history.
I've managed to hang on all of the original packaging. The inner box is very nice and I couldn't tell you if it's wood or a reasonable facsimile. When it's all put together in the outer box you have a structure large enough to rent out as a microloft in NYC. This is due in part to an owner's manual that is 95%useless. It has directions for all movements that were in the current for Longines at that time. Maybe it's easier for them to print them this way but I found it wasteful. My model isn't even referenced directly in the manual. There are setting directions that are correct.
So far it has kept excellent time. I couldn't tell you if it's so many seconds off but it has always been accurate. Slips well under the cuff - dresses up nicely. I've mainly worn it with business casual, sometimes jeans. She is pretty comfy on the wrist and has decent presence (ha ha) with the slim bezel. Your can feel it's there but just. The strap Longines issues with this thing is nothing special. It looks nice new but after six months' steady was getting tired in the buckle area. The only reason I didn't get something else yesterday was the fact that the replacement is free. The stainless case is well polished. The caseback is nothing to write home about.
There are times when the engraving on the silver dial seems to fade away. Then you get under the right light and it's all there. I've always liked it.
Now I find myself not loving it as I think I'd rather have a stainless with a black dial - maybe another vintage piece like a Bulova electric so I can get the style I find myself favoring more and a movement type that isn't represented in my small collection. So this watch may go up for sale in order to justify the purchase of another.
Hope y'all enjoyed.

I really enjoyed the review - until, that is, you suddenly mentioned that you were "not loving [the watch] as much." I get what you're saying, but it came as a bit of an unpleasant surprise after such a positive review. Still, it was well-written and the pix went well with the write-up. Overall, a really good piece. Thanks for posting, and keep 'em coming, R-Cat! Laughing

Oh, and take everything this old dead guy has to say with a large grain of salt; what do the dead know anyway, right? scratch
