Clean Up Australia Day 2013: Diving with the OS300
For Clean Up Australia Day 2013 we went to the local fisherman's jetty to clean up underwater. Pulled 15 garbage bags of stuff and 3 deck chairs out from beneath Ammo Jetty near Woodman Point. The visibility is low because of some current and us churning the water a little as we pulled stuff off the bottom. The resident Lionfish and several octopi kept an eye on us.
The OS300 is a pleasure to wear diving. Its big but well balanced, the bezel is a joy, the crown is perfect and the dial visibility is as good as it gets. Some pics...
An octopus has covered itself with shells...
This Lionfish was fully checking me out - they are territorial and stay in one area.
Lionfish meets Octopus...The Lionfish played 'chicken' to within about 8 inches and then wisely backed out
An octopus that is using a clam shell as a home
Jetty pylons become a garden of sponges...I love the sponges
My next dive will be on a wreck off the coast of Bunbury in the south west of West Oz with the Bremont Supermarine 500m.

Very cool that you gave your time to do this. Great to see that guys like you actually dive with your Dive Watches (I'm, just a poser). Excellent photos

Nice Carl ... still, your piece or the reef, is blessed with no goddamn white sharks, which is too bad....
In any case, Orient seem adequately nice but not at a Sinn level...thoughts?

Both are seriously good watches and a man would be happy long-run with either. For actually diving? The Orient is a fairly easy choice.eddiea wrote:Nice Carl ... still, your piece or the reef, is blessed with no goddamn white sharks, which is too bad....

The case comparison is a close thing in favour of the U1. But the OS300 has a far better bezel action (just about the best in the business), in-house movement, costs less, classic dive watch looks, much better dive strap. The Orient also keeps better time (+4 secs vs +11 for mine). And it seems that is not a lucky accident - I have never heard anyone report anything other than an Orient Sat Diver being a class act in terms of time-keeping.
I am a Sinn fan and love my U1 and want to pick up an EZM10 at some point. If I was a desk-diver I can certainly see how I might fall on the U1 side of the line. But as an active diver? Nope, give me an OS300.
All things considered the best dive watches I have ever worn for diving are the MM300 and the OS300. Japan for the win
Notwithstanding the above I do love my German watches. The one I am really waiting for is a Damasko 300m dive watch with their in-house movement. That will be my watch heaven.

Fine pics, Carl! I think I'll wear my OS300 today, and if anyone at work asks me about it as a dive watch, I'll pull this thread up and pretend that it's actually me in the pics!

Great pics, I love the octopus in the clam shell.
Ha, that's perfect.

Same here...love dive watches, but I hate the water.
Excellent pics and probably the coolest wrist shots I've seen...thanks for sharing.

I call bullshit! Nothing but old Sea Hunt footage with an Orient photoshopped in - I can even see Lloyd Bridges in one of those pix. If there were really from Australia, there'd be those damn oversized Foster's cans all over the place.

A common misconception. No Aussie actually drinks Fosters. Fosters is a joke we play on foreigners.Falstaff wrote:I call bullshit! Comprehensive, I have no hands on experience with either one so, I tend to listen to those who had.bedlam wrote:Not the reply you expected?eddiea wrote:Good to know!!!bedlam wrote:Both are seriously good watches and a man would be happy long-run with either. Rats. The Supermarine didn't arrive and the Bunbury dive is this Sunday. Oh well, next time. Will take the BN0085 instead.

You may encounter the same, Sinn like strap issues with the Promaster...I have taken my snorkeling (no suit, no real need for a dive watch ) and was ok ... suit up however maybe a different story.bedlam wrote:Rats. I should be ok if the Ctitizen goes over the suit initially.eddiea wrote:You may encounter the same, Sinn like strap issues with the Promaster...I have taken my snorkeling (no suit, no real need for a dive watch ) and was ok ... suit up however maybe a different story.bedlam wrote:Rats. The issue with the Sinn was its a fixed loop with a dive extension. If the Sinn rubber fits my wrist normally I only have the dive extension to make an adjustment for the wetsuit. In my case the wetsuit and glove was still not enough to take up all the slack created by using the extension. It seems like the extension creates around 5mm extra distance on the strap and my combined suit and gloves are 5mm (its a 5mm suit but the wrists are tapered to 3mm with a silicon inner). That's fine until you start to dive and the water pressure compresses the suit. By the time I was at 15mm the Sinn was loose and could spin right around my wrist.
The Citizen has a buckle and tang, so as long as it fits over the wrist area of the suit it should be ok and because it has a buckle I can tighten it on the fly under water if it got too loose. We will see how we go
