Liquid Metal vs. Standard Planet Ocean

I got to try on a Liquid Metal Planet Ocean tonight and compare it side by side with the standard Planet Ocean 2201.50.00.

The biggest difference in appearance is the dial. The LM dial is a glossy, dark, deep black. It changes depth of black a bit depending on angle. The PO dial is a flat black or very dark grey and looks much the same regardless of angle.

The LM numbers are applied liquid metal pieces while the PO number markers are painted white. The LM numbers tend to appear and disappear based on angle of light, like any polished surface does. The white on the PO stays the same regardless of angle.

The tip of the seconds marker on the LM are red and the PO is tipped in orange.

The "Seamaster: log is red on the LM and white on the PO.

The back of the LM is different, with limited edition number, etc.

The difference in the bezel is not huge, although it is definitely there, possibly a little darker and more polished black on the LM. But it's pretty subtle. I guess the difference will appear after years of wear and tear.

I was looking at the watches under typical jewelry store lights, designed to highlight and make jewelry extra sparkly. So I think perhaps the differences would be lessened in normal life lighting.

My opinion:

With the glossy deep black dial, the metal numbers and markers sparkle on the LM. Overall the LM appears more flashy and sparkly than the standard PO. The standard PO is more subdued. But I think I prefer the dial of the standard model becuase it appears the same at any angle. I think I prefer the red Seamaster logo and red tipped second hand of the LM. I think a standard model will be my choice, although I wish it had a ceramic bezel. Perhaps that choice will be added to Omega's catalog in the future. Or perhaps if I buy a PO I can eventually replace the bezel with a ceramic one for long term durability.
