TAG Formula Grande Date - Thoughts?

No, I'm not a Geek that needs to be told what watch to get, so straighten up. I see a few of you have TAG's and wondered what your thoughts were on this model? Not the chrono version, 3-hand (if you can call it that), quartz model. It's one of the few TAG's that interest me. I'm not a huge TAG fan, because I do think you are paying for the name, but every time I see one, I get a little twitch in my pants. Think I'll try one on at the Duty Free on the way home to see how she looks.

Don't have this watch, but I recently got a TAG auto Link, my first experience with the brand. I'm very pleasantly surprised.
That said, I feel many of the AquaRacer/quartz offerings aren't the same quality. Feel/look a bit cheezy.

Thanks Boscoe, I read your Review on your Link. Maybe it's hit and miss with this brand? The Formula has been a popular model for quite some time, so I'm hoping it's their bread and butter model.

I think that is a great watch, (maybe get it on-sale somewhere online).
I wouldn't pay retail for it.
It looks great, and I love that date location in the subdial, it keeps the dial cleaner.

Also, make sure to get it on the strap or bracelet of your choice.
I prefer it on Bracelet.

Aftermarket TAG rubber straps are a couple of C-notes, and I am not sure about the price of the bracelet, but probably double that. They are proud of their straps and bracelets.

I have a quartz Aquaracer (ETA 252.262 movement), my first non-Invicta Decent watch, that I bought at an AD on an impulse 4 years ago.
I over paid for that ($1400), but even online they still go for $1100 today. I wouldn't buy that model again, but the watch in the picture is great. Again, that was an impulse buy, right after a tax refund.

I've seen a few folks wear those Formula One's, and they are really a classy look, IMO.
The car salesman that sold us a Ford was wearing an older Formula One on Bracelet.
It just looks killer to me!!!

TAG quartz are overpriced/ overrated IMHO... I'm not fan of the brand for the most part but, if you have too have one? autos are the way to go with TAG .

I tried one of the older models on at an AD, and I liked the bracelet.
But, they may have changed the bracelet in the last few years.

I have a black dialed chrono F1 that I got used about six months ago. I like the look and appreciate the lightness of the watch. The bracelet does seem cheap, but it is suprisingly strong. I would try one on somewhere and then buy used or gray market online. You are paying for the Tag name somewhat. It is one of the few quartz watches that I wear and haven't sold.

I have a TH F1. I did want to get the Grande Date but they didn't have it in stock. The Grande Date is a REALLY nice watch. I don't care about it being "too expensive" for being a quartz. If you like it, pull the trigger.

Does anyone know if the crystal on this one has any layers of AR coating? I've searched the net and cannot find any evidence of it.

I think that it is Sapphire, and not Mineral.

Tags in general, I've worn mine at work, and not a single problem.
The bracelet is all scratched up, but the crystal is in perfect shape.

TB, it is sapphire for sure, but I wondered if it had any AR coating on the crystal. I do not see evidence of it on the web, and I would think that TAG would certainly list it in their description if it was AR coated sapphire which they do not.

seen by many as a design icon -- the perfect form for a three-register chronograph, with its clean lines creating an elegant sports watch

Dont know about the model you are looking at, my TAG has no AR coating.

Why buy TAG when you can get a big I with the famous 5050Eyal movement...and value pays to boot, not to mention its far bigger than a sissy TAG!

looked at the grand carrera which was nice but over priced IMO. I have heard good things about the brand though.

Thoughts so far:

Nice size, not over powering. Relatively slim so it should fit under my dress shirts nicely. Sizing as I said was a breeze. The bracelet fit and finish is very nice and very soft. So far I really like the look on my wrist. I went and ordered some contacts this morning and strangely enough, no one really noticed it and no one wanted to buy it right off my wrist.
