So what's your opinion of Vostok in general?

I recently purchased the Caspian Sea Monster. I can deal with the lack of quick setting the date and time. I think it's a gorgeous piece, but I don't know enough about Vostok-Europe to really say whether or not it's respectable.

I love it when people buy a watch and THEN ask for opinions!!

I have 2 VE's and find the lack of the quick set date a royal PITA. The movements are on par with the Seiko 7s26/36 as far as accuracy goes but I'll stick with Japan over Lithuania for my inexpensive movements.

They have a new Anchar that I like the looks of. Probably won't buy another VE though (I do have a K3). The non quick set bothers me because I don't use winders and need to set each watch I wear.

All overpriced watches. Craig has overpriced the watches but I guess it is working for him.

I won't buy from him because of that and get my Russian watches from reputable less expensive dealers.

Had one Vostok back in the old days. Sold it.
It's a cheap watch that is as Russian as I am. Meaning not at all.
It's Bulgarian or something.

Can't imagine buying anything Russian (or Lithuanian for that matter) for its high quality - especially a commercially produced piece. As an amusing conversation piece, sure - but not at $300, $400 or $500.

I've owned a couple of VEs and some actual Russians over the last couple of years. While OK, I've found that they're usually overpriced and not generally reliable. The non-quickset date thing is also a pain in the ass.

I just remembered I loathe the day/night feature (a box that turns black or red) to tell you if the sun is out! It flips at 9 pm!
This may rock inside the Arctic circle, but to me it is bullshit. Here are my old pix

In the old SAH-JTV days, Craig had some interesting Russian watches at pretty decent prices. Now, even at Shop, the prices are pretty high for are really just curiosities.

I remenber that time which really is not that long ago. It appears he has fallen into the "sell many for cheap" mentality. From what I can tell, some of the watches he is selling give new meaning to the Sino-Russian treaty
