Koimaster review - Deep Blue 1000m
Deep Blue Diver

I purchased the two watches above to review after reading about them in several forums including Watchlords. The first review is about the 1000-meter dive watch with a Sunray Dial. I ordered the Green dial to wear at Oregon football games. I am not going to discuss the Presentation boxes as I either throw them away or put them aside until I sell or give the watch away. Suffice to say that the Sun Ray 1000m watch came in a simple case.
The watch caught my attention right away as it reminds me of an Oris Diver in many ways. The case shape is very similar to the Oris TT1.

The watch is heavy but not overly so. It fits well on the wrist and when the watch arrived, I was surprised by how comfortalble the watch is.The bezel is tight but after a few twists she moved easliy and with conviction into the place I wanted her. The bezel is gear like on the edges broken up with an equal spacing of a smooth transition section.

I like the bezel on this watch a lot. Compared to others costing more, this alone makes it worth the price to me. Crown was easy to work, very smooth without drama setting the time, or the day/date wheel. I credit this to the movement, which is the workhorse Miyota 8205, which is a 21-jewel movement which can be repaired although I would recommend just replacing it based on the low cost of the movement, about $40.00 USD. A helium valve is also present which I have no plans to use. It is comforting to know though that if I go fishing off the coast at Newport and the watch drops into the ocean, that fish will be able to keep time.

A sapphire crystal as befits a dive watch, no flaming fusion here.
My one nit picking comment is the braclet. I am not a fan of bracelets that can be scratched up too easily and this one can be. It also lacks half links and only has a couple of micro adjustments. I will be replacing this with one from Watch Prince in a short time. The bracelet itself is comfortable and for most it will suffice.

No display caseback which is fine with me. A dive watch that is certified to 1000m with a case back is not a dive watch in my opinion. Pretty simple caseback which I like.

The dial is easy to read and the lume ( sorry no lume shots) is excellent.

Conclusion on the watch above, a keeper which I have worn for a couple of days already. For the price point of $250.00 this was a steal IMHO. Compare this to other offerings out there in this price range or $250-$400 and see what you find outside of Seiko and a few other Asian brands. Compare this to the current crop of watches sold on cable venues and this comes out heads and shoulders above many of those offerings. I will review the 500 meter watch tomorrow.

Thanks Alain, for $250 is sounds and looks like a hell of a good deal. I know Foggy likes his as well.
Question: The 8205, is it newer than the 8215? Usually I would think it's goes sequentially, but I'm not sure in this case. I know the 8205 offers the Day/Date complication versus the 8215 Date only. Other than that, any other changes in the movement?

As far as I know the movements came out at the same time, just different functions. Both also hand wind, beat at 21,600 beats per hour and can only auto wind one direction.

The 8205 have 21 Jewel, 21,600bph, unidirectional winding, 40 hours power reserve and day&date calendar....The 8215 have the same specs , sans only date calendar.
Hope this help

Re: Koimaster review - Deep Blue 1000m
Thanks for a great review, Alain! I owned one of these same models, only with the black dial. I agree with much of what you already said, especially concerning the bracelet; this was the deal-killer for me.
With only two micro-adjustments, I simply couldn't get a proper fit. It was either too loose or too tight.
As a sidebar, I have to relay a bit of CS supplied by Stan; when I got the watch (from ShopNBC) the movement was very fast, about +30 seconds a day. This is actually within Miyota's specs, but I emailed Stan and asked if I could send it back for better regulation under warranty. He replied promptly that I could. About three weeks later I got it back, and it was perfectly regulated, literally dead-on. After a couple of days it was running about a second fast a day. Unfortunately, the goofy unsizable bracelet finally soured me on the watch, and I sold it not long afterward.
Great review, Alain, and cool pics, too.
