Tightening screw down crown question

Post by sandoz on Sun Jan 30, 2011 8:32 am

Is tightening the crown just enough to keep it in its compressed position enough to maintain its rated 200m water resistance? So far no condensation even when i shower. Problem is if i turn the crown to firmness the watch eventually stops running, but if i keep crown tightened as described above it keeps its normal +6 sec per month. The watch is a timex SS reef gear in the 8th yr of its original lithium battery.

8 years?
Sounds like whatever you're doing works.
No clue why a quartz watch would stop because the crown it wound a bit too firmly.

Actually it started exhibiting this characteristic about a yr ago. Until then i was able to tighten the crown firmly.
Makes me wonder if it has something to do with the battery aging.

Hand-tightening should be enough to keep it water resistant. I also don't understand why tightening down more would cause it to stop.
