GS Automatic Mechanical Hi-Beat 36000 SBGH001 vs GS Spring Drive SBGA003
« on: November 03, 2010, 12:47:49 AM »I like simple well made watches that have just the basic functions (second hand and date). I have several PP watches that have only time and seconds(not date, chrono or other functions).
Am new to JDM watches but am very intrigued at the GS line given their quality, rarity and the fact that it's a Seiko.
1) What would be the pros and cons in choosing either one of the above watches in relation to a Grand Seiko? The Spring Drive mechanism is not exclusive to GS but is the Hi Beat mechanism exclusive to GS?
2) I am not familiar with the Hi Beat but is there a long history when it comes to the Hi Beat specification? I assume that since Spring Drive technology is new, there is less of a relationship between Grand Seiko and Spring Drive than with Hi Beat.
3)Any useful web resources for Hi Beat history?
4) I've seen the Hi Beat with both a silver/white dial face or dark blue. Which would be the more classic color for this model?
5) Since the watches would have to be serviced in Japan, which would have more time between servicing?
6) any other issues I would need to consider in deciding between the two?
